Honda Odyssey Lawsuit Says Airbag Recall Doesn't Fix Defect or Restore Vehicle Value
Honda Odyssey owners have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California following Honda's recall of 440,830 Odyssey minivans from 2018 to 2022 due to a side and side-curtain airbag defect. The defect can cause airbags to deploy when the vehicle hits potholes or speed bumps, and the NHTSA recall notes that the SRS ECU has incorrect deployment parameters. Honda reported 25 injury claims linked to the issue, and the recall was first raised in November 2017 with an investigation lasting until July 2021. Dealers will reprogram or replace the SRS ECU to improve deployment parameters. In addition to the recall action, plaintiffs argue the defect has devalued Odyssey resale values and that recall fixes do not fully address the underlying issue.
