Huron County teen killed after e-bike collides with cable

A Huron County teenager died early Sunday after colliding with a cable while riding an e-bike in Verona Township, Michigan. Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson said two 15-year-old boys were traveling on M-142 just outside Bad Axe at about 2:50 a.m. on Aug. 2. They turned onto what they believed was a road but was actually a business driveway with a cable crossing it. Hanson said the teens were riding without their lights activated and at speeds exceeding 25 mph. One teen from Filion in Meade Township struck the cable and was thrown from the vehicle; the other teen from Bad Axe braked and avoided major injuries. The Filion teen died about three hours after being taken to McLaren Thumb Region hospital; an autopsy is scheduled for Aug. 3.
