IDOT worker, driver injured in Dan Ryan crash Sunday, police say

An IDOT worker and a Kia driver were injured when a crash involving a stranded motorist occurred in the Dan Ryan Expressway southbound lanes near 37th Street early Sunday, authorities said. The incident happened around 1:56 a.m., as the IDOT crew parked behind the stranded vehicle; a Kia rear-ended the IDOT truck, pushing it into the disabled car. Both the IDOT worker and the Kia driver were transported to area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. The express lanes remained closed for nearly five hours for cleanup and investigation, reopening before 7 a.m. Police did not immediately release any citations or charges, and the investigation is ongoing.
