IROC race featuring Jeff Gordon added to Freedom 250 Grand Prix lineup
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix weekend in Washington, D.C., has added an International Race of Champions (IROC) event featuring major motorsports stars before the IndyCar race. Retired champions including NASCAR Cup Series winners Jeff Gordon, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Rusty Wallace and Bill Elliott, along with Indy 500 winners Tony Kanaan, Helio Castroneves and Dario Franchitti, are set to race on the 1.7-mile street circuit around the National Mall on Saturday, Aug. 22. IROC originally launched in 1973 as an all-star competition across disciplines, and the series returned after rights were revived in 2024 by Ray Evernham and Rob Kauffman. Gordon previously finished second in an IROC exhibition in North Carolina earlier this year. Drivers will host a free autograph session on Aug. 22, with IndyCar racing on Sunday, Aug. 23.
