Jaguar Land Rover reverses plans for an EV-only factory

Jaguar Land Rover has U-turned on plans to shift a factory to electric-only production, refocusing on growth in the US. The maker will still offer petrol and hybrid versions of new models, including smaller SUVs slated for all-electric versions. Executives say the move aims to grow US revenue to match the current group size, potentially adding about 250,000 cars.

Halewood on Merseyside will add the ability to build hybrid versions of smaller SUVs such as Velar, Evoque, and Discovery, while Defender remains in Slovakia. The blueprint will be adjusted to permit more polluting hybrids. Executives cited US growth ambitions and notes on tariff considerations, with Stellantis collaboration also in view.
