Japan, Suzuki's first mini EV could take the budget crown with rival BYD cells inside
xCruzo Brief
Suzuki will launch the e-Sky mini EV in Japan on Nov. 16, priced at about 2.12 million yen (around $13,387), aiming to undercut existing options in the kei EV segment. The model is expected to be the category’s lowest-priced, helped by lithium iron phosphate battery packs likely sourced from rival BYD’s battery division. Suzuki lists a range up to 310 km (193 miles) and an AC consumption figure of 97 Wh per kilometer. The e-Sky uses a kei EV platform designed for it and Suzuki’s own electric drive system. Subsidy details are pending; if it qualifies for the 568,000 yen commercial kei incentive, pricing could approach 1.53 million yen.
