Kia Recalls 463,000 SUVs A Second Time For Seat Motor Fires
Kia is expanding a safety effort after a second recall tied to seat motor fire risk in certain first-generation 2020–2024 Telluride SUVs. The automaker has recalled 462,869 vehicles, after a previous recall in June 2024 covering 463,000 units for the same issue that it attempted to fix with a bracket and revised components. Kia says the power seat switch can be susceptible to external impact; if forced, it may misalign or damage the switch and cause continuous seat motor operation, increasing overheating and fire risk. Between October 2024 and April 2026, Kia learned of seven seat fires and 11 melted motors, with no reported injuries, crashes, or fatalities. The latest remedy is to install an electronic fuse to prevent continuous operation if the switch is damaged, with owner notices expected after the issue was investigated for potential improper dealer repairs.
