Kyle Larson extends Chase points lead with first NASCAR win at Talladega after last-lap scramble | Arkansas Democrat Gazette
Kyle Larson erased a half-lap nightmare at Talladega Superspeedway to win his first NASCAR Cup race there and extend his Chase lead. With about a half-lap left, he threw his left hand off the wheel in frustration after his No. 5 Chevrolet dropped from the lead. Roughly 30 seconds later, Larson struck with the right timing on the 2.66-mile track, rallying from 11th to first through the last two corners. He took the white flag ahead but lost 10 spots early after bumps, then regained it with help from Ross Chastain and others. Larson beat William Byron by inches; Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was 0.066 seconds back. The win moved Larson 73 points ahead of Denny Hamlin with two races remaining, and a Nov. 1 Martinsville victory could clinch a third title.
