Listen to the Ford Le Mans Hypercar Transition From Quiet EV to V8 Monster

Ford is set to expand its FIA World Endurance Championship presence in 2027 with a new hypercar under the LMDh regulations. The Blue Oval bought the chassis but developed its own aerodynamic bodywork and engine, using a 5.4-liter V8 derived from the Coyote powertrain. The prototype was tested for more than 1,000 km (620 miles) at Circuit Paul Ricard in France across three full days, with drivers Logan Sargeant, Matt Campbell, Tom Blomqvist and Mike Rockenfeller. New video shows it transitioning from quiet EV pull-away to V8 combustion as the engine effectively “kicks in” after electric launch. Teams including Cadillac run similar hybrid strategies, except for Aston Martin’s V12-powered Valkyrie.
