Lewis Hamilton secured pole position for the 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix, narrowly ahead of former teammate George Russell, while Charles Leclerc completed the top three. The Briton’s pole was his first with Scuderia Ferrari. Kimi Antonelli will start fourth, a potentially landmark moment for the young Mercedes driver, who qualified fifth before moving up due to Max Verstappen receiving a one-place grid penalty after a FP2 incident involving Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson. In the 2026 title fight, Antonelli can be crowned in Mexico City with just two points. He could also win the drivers’ crown without scoring if neither Russell nor Hamilton takes the race win and claims all 25 points. Mercedes can also target the constructors’ title by outscoring Ferrari by at least 39 points.
