Londonderry: Traffic warning after car fire closes Foyle Bridge

Londonderry police warned of traffic delays after a vehicle fire led to the closure of the Foyle Bridge. The bridge was closed in both directions while emergency services worked to put out the blaze and clear the scene. Police said the fire caused tailbacks across the city and urged drivers to use alternative routes where possible. In a PSNI social media post, authorities said the Foyle Bridge was closed to all traffic as crews made the road safe. The Northern Ireland Fire Service reported firefighters were called to the bridge at 13:00 BST on Thursday, believing the fire was caused by accidental ignition, and the scene was then handed to police. A structural inspection has been ongoing since mid-July, including a 30mph speed limit and temporary lane closures.
