Man Buys A Used Car With A Warranty. Then He Realizes Just How Difficult It Can Be To Use It: 'When It Comes To Filing A Claim...'
A mechanic’s warning about used-car warranties follows a dispute highlighted in a TikTok account about how claims can become difficult when repairs are needed. The article says extended warranties can cost around $139 per month on average and may reach thousands of dollars annually, yet buyers often rely on them for coverage. In the case described, TikTok user Chris Carlisle (@chriscarlisle07) said a customer purchased a used car from his dealership with a warranty, then the transmission failed. Carlisle submitted a claim, which was approved, but the warranty company reportedly authorized only a used transmission rather than a new or remanufactured one. After the customer chose the used unit due to limited funds, the car was later taken on a trip to Alabama from Florida, when the transmission again failed. Carlisle said the warranty company denied the second claim and required the vehicle to be returned to the original repair dealership, leaving the customer responsible for diagnostic and transportation costs.
