Man sentenced after object from car smashed Essex Police vehicle
A 34-year-old man has been sentenced after an object fell from the roof of his car and shattered the windscreen of an Essex Police vehicle while officers were responding to an emergency on the A120 westbound on 19 December at about 13:30 GMT. Officers said Glenn Lillie was driving on the opposite carriageway when a “large unknown item” came off the white Audi’s roof and flew over the central barrier at speed, scattering glass and forcing the road section near Little Canfield to close for clearing and debris removal. Lillie admitted he did not stop, saying he considered it unsafe. He pleaded guilty on 6 August to three charges of danger of injury and two counts of failing to stop or report. He received a six-month disqualification, a 12-month community order with 140 hours of work, and was ordered to pay £244 in costs and a surcharge.
