Maryland Gov. Wes Moore raises BWI union workers' pay to keep airport competitive

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said Monday that the minimum wage for unionized workers at BWI Marshall Airport will rise from $17 an hour to $18. The change will apply to about 120 employees covered by bargaining agreements between their union and the state, and Moore said his administration will pursue emergency legislation to expand wage increases to hundreds of additional non-union staffers. Speaking in Annapolis alongside leaders from the Local 32BJ Service Employees International Union and state agencies, officials highlighted roles such as security guards, custodians and groundskeepers. Maryland’s Secure Maryland Wage Act is set to expire at the end of December; Moore said he will seek to reform and extend it.
