Medvedev brushes aside Gorzny after birds ruffle his feathers

Daniil Medvedev reached the third round of the US Open after an unusual mid-match interruption from two birds. The 2021 champion beat American wildcard Sebastian Gorzny 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 at Louis Armstrong Stadium on Wednesday. Medvedev struck 14 aces and won comfortably early, firing 10 winners to just two from Gorzny in the first set, which took 21 minutes. During the second set, the birds appeared on the net and the umpire replayed the point after they kept playing for about 45 seconds. Medvedev said he was “happy with [his] level,” and will next face either Spain’s Jaume Munar or France’s Arthur Rinderknech.
