Men killed in 2-car crash on Route 28 in the Town of Olive

Two men died in a two-car collision on Route 28 in the Town of Olive on Aug. 23, state police said. Troopers from the Kingston state police barracks responded at 6:47 a.m. The investigation found that a 2024 Chevrolet driven by Peter B. Bonenfant, 19, of Smithtown on Long Island, was traveling west when, for unknown reasons, it crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a 2021 Mercedes-Benz driven by Philip F. Jacobus, 72, of New York City, head-on. Olive Fire Department personnel extricated both men. Olive First Aid Ambulance transported them to HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Hospital in Kingston, where Bonenfant was pronounced dead.
