Mexico's World Cup loss doesn't stop fans from celebrating across Southern California
Mexico fans celebrated across Southern California on Sunday night despite the national team’s loss to England at the World Cup. In Santa Ana, AIR7 filmed supporters around 9 p.m. setting off fireworks, waving Mexico flags, and shaking each other’s cars, a trend described as having become popular during Mexico’s tournament run. In Huntington Park, police closed the intersection of Mountain View Avenue and Florence Avenue as people spilled into the streets, and at least one person was reportedly detained after a Citizen App video. In Lynwood, a crowd gathered at Plaza Mexico to watch the match before moving into the streets; police established a perimeter as a precaution. Fans said they were disappointed but proud, and English supporters also watched the match in Santa Monica. England plays Norway next weekend in Miami.
