Mexico Unveils Olinia Uno, A "Coche Del Pueblo" Starting At $8600

Mexico is moving forward with the Olinia Uno, a 'car del pueblo' designed as a national vehicle, slated to begin production in 2027 with a starting price of 8,400 dollars. The government is pursuing a public-private partnership modeled after electricity grid partnerships to secure capital, expertise, and after-sales support, aiming to produce 50,000 units by 2029 and achieve 75 percent domestic content. Project head Roberto Capuano said interest from more than 10 parties is active, with negotiations underway among national and international groups. CTO Rafael Garayoa noted the plan focuses on building a local ecosystem to reduce reliance on global supply chains. The Uno will use an LFP battery pack.
