More than 80,700 sign petition calling for World Cup final replay
More than 80,700 sign petition calling for World Cup final replay: protests have continued after Argentina’s 2026 World Cup final loss to Spain on Sunday 19 July at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. Fan Gisela Sánchez launched a Change.org petition urging FIFA to replay the match, which was decided by a Ferran Torres goal in extra time. The petition had surpassed 80,739 signatures at the time of writing and accuses Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic of delivering a “controversial and corrupt” performance. It cites videos circulating on social media, but FIFA regulations limit replays to exceptional circumstances, and a Change.org petition has no legal or sporting effect. Separately, FIFA opened a disciplinary investigation into clashes after the final whistle.
