Morocco's political parties battle youth disenchantment ahead of election

Morocco’s political parties are campaigning to win over young voters ahead of the Sept 23 election, pledging jobs and affordable housing after last year’s violent protests and a mass border rush on Spain’s enclave of Ceuta exposed broad dissatisfaction. The vote will be Morocco’s fourth since the 2011 Arab Spring unrest, when the monarchy shared more power with parliament before reinforcing its position. Islamist leader PJD was in government for about a decade but was heavily defeated five years ago, paving the way for parties founded by palace-linked figures, including the National Rally of Independents (RNI) and the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).
