MotoGP champ sets up match point with dominant drought-breaking win in Malaysia
Marc Marquez broke a seven-season Malaysian drought, winning the Sepang race for the first time in eight years and setting up “match point” for the 2026 title at Qatar next weekend. With primary rival Jorge Martin sidelined by a fractured right wrist, the seven-time MotoGP champion extended his championship lead to 44 points with 111 rounds remaining. Starting second, Marquez took the lead at Turn 1 and was never seriously challenged, finishing 4.172 seconds ahead of KTM’s Pedro Acosta after 20 laps. Alex Marquez completed the podium after battling back from early pressures. Marc’s win was his 80th premier-class victory and his third Malaysian GP win (2014, 2018, and now 2026). Marco Bezzecchi, Marquez’s closest challenger with Martin out, fell to sixth and lost further title chances. Qatar hosts the final Asian showdown from November 6-8.
