Needs better balance between business and sport, says Norris

Lando Norris said Formula One needs a better balance between business priorities and sport, arguing the championship has become overly driven by commercial decisions. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest on July 24, the McLaren world champion pointed to frustration among drivers after new regulations limited speed, including at last weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix. Norris criticized the incentive structure, saying changes were made so teams and manufacturers such as Audi could enter, while drivers have “very, very little say.” Audi entered this season after taking over Swiss-based Sauber. Norris also referenced rule updates for 2027 to reduce the electrical contribution, noting his McLaren uses a Mercedes engine. He added that fan engagement has split, especially since “Drive to Survive” drew in audiences focused more on driver personalities than race execution.
