Aprilia breaks MotoGP top speed record

Aprilia set a new MotoGP top speed mark when Jorge Martín reached 368.6 km/h down Mugello’s main straight during Saturday morning’s Free Practice 2, surpassing KTM’s previous 366.1 km/h record. Marco Bezzecchi matched that speed later in the day’s sprint, giving Aprilia a 1-2 as Raul Fernández led Martín in the race. Fabiano Sterlacchini cautioned that wind direction and slipstreaming could push the speed higher by about 2 km/h if conditions align, underscoring Mugello’s potential to host new records before the 2027 engine-capacity change to 850cc. Teams downplayed the significance, yet the technical team highlighted aero, engine performance, and exit from the last corner as critical factors.
