Neymar returns for Brazil but there's a new Junior in town
Neymar’s return to Brazil’s squad after 981 days out was the headline as the Selecao advanced to the Round of 32 with a 3-0 win over Scotland on Wednesday in Miami. The 34-year-old forward came on as a substitute, playing 20 minutes and making his 14th World Cup appearance, replacing Matheus Cunha in the 76th minute. His comeback followed a five-week calf injury layoff and criticism this week from Brazil’s president, who called him a “work-from-home” player. Brazil fans chanted “Neymar! Neymar!” as he warmed up after the team went 3-0 up on the hour. The match also highlighted a newer star, Vinicius Junior, 25, who scored twice for Brazil, including a late header in stoppage time before a VAR decision ruled one close chance out. Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s decision remained controversial, but he framed Neymar as an option alongside Vinicius.
