Nissan issues statement after reports emerge of once popular sedan's discontinuation

Nissan issued a statement after reports circulated that it would discontinue the Altima sedan and also end production of the Rogue Plug-In Hybrid. Citing The Drive, the article says Nissan would stop producing the Altima, as confirmed by Ponz Pandikuthira, Nissan Senior VP and Chief Product & Planning Officer for the Americas. The report also alleged Pandikuthira confirmed the plug-in hybrid’s discontinuation, noting it was planned from the start for a short production run. The Drive linked the Altima’s decline to market pressure and said it has been eight years since a design refresh, with sales down 32% to 42,288 from 62,107. It also compares that decline with the Sentra, down about 12% to 75,549 from 85,523. Nissan later denied the Altima would be discontinued for 2027, saying it will introduce a 2027 model year and that the all-new 2026 Sentra exemplifies its sedan strategy.
