Onboard With the BMW M2 As It Breaks Its Own Nurburgring Record
Onboard With the BMW M2 As It Breaks Its Own Nurburgring Record describes BMW’s latest effort to improve Nürburgring lap times with the standard M2. The regular M2, equipped with an M Performance Track Kit rather than the M2 CS, lowered the company’s benchmark by half a second, completing the full 20.8-kilometer Nordschleife configuration in 7 minutes and 25 seconds on May 22. Last year, the M2 CS set a segment record of 7:25.5, making the new run faster while still carried out by Jörg Weidinger. BMW notes the kit-equipped M2 is quicker than the M3 CS Sedan (7:28) and M3 CS Touring (7:29), but still behind the M4 CS (7:21), while the M4 CSL remains the fastest BMW at 7:18. The Track Kit costs €23,500 in Germany and includes components such as a carbon-fiber rear wing, adjustable splitter, coilover suspension adjustments, and track-focused aerodynamics, with specific road-use limitations.
