Pedestrian struck, killed early Wednesday on Jacksonville's Northside

A woman was killed early Wednesday, Sept. 2, after being struck by an SUV in Jacksonville’s Northside area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred at about 3 a.m. in the 3700 block of Capper Road near Wingate Road, in the College Park neighborhood. Police said the SUV fled the scene without stopping to provide information or assist the pedestrian. The victim was taken to a local hospital where she died. A witness described the vehicle as a dark SUV that drove away on Capper Road toward Lem Turner Road. The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to contact First Coast Crime Stoppers. Officials also cited recent pedestrian fatality statistics for Duval County and surrounding areas.
