Pedro Acosta: MotoGP should consider reverting start device ban

xCruzo Brief

Pedro Acosta says MotoGP should reconsider reverting its ban on front start devices, arguing that starting without them may be more dangerous. At the Czech MotoGP in Brno (19–21 June), riders practised launches with the front device disengaged to assess whether a mid-season ban would be viable. MotoGP then announced a ban effective from the Dutch MotoGP at Assen (26–28 June), aiming to improve safety at the first turns after several incidents, including one for Johann Zarco at the Catalan Grand Prix in May that led to major knee injuries and kept him out for over a month. Acosta, speaking Friday and after Saturday’s Sprint, said wheelies are easier and riders can remain stopped mid-track, making the no-device starts worse. Fabio Quartararo disagreed after the Sprint, while Marco Bezzecchi said it was too early to judge and planned to wait until Sunday’s race to decide.
