Cockpit recordings reviewed by U.S. investigators indicate that one of the pilots of an Amazon cargo plane that crashed during landing at Miami warned his colleague for nearly two minutes that the aircraft was coming in too fast. The National Transportation Safety Board said the other pilot did not provide a consistent verbal response to those alerts. The plane touched down awkwardly, briefly tried to take off again, then overran the runway by about 1,300 feet (396 meters) and struck a van carrying five workers cleaning an aircraft. After hitting the van, it slid and collided with a compact SUV, bursting into fire. All five occupants of the van died; five others were injured, including two in critical condition as of Tuesday. Both pilots survived and were interviewed Wednesday.
