Production of Korean cars has stopped in St. Petersburg
Production of Korean cars has stopped in St. Petersburg, according to reporting that the supply of Solaris vehicles to dealerships continues but only until the fall. Sources within the dealer community said that sedans and crossovers assembled in 2025 are being sent to showrooms even as manufacturing has halted. Since the beginning of 2026, South Korean cars have not been produced in Russia’s northern capital. The article says that after modernization, cars now known in the Russian market as Omoda would move along the assembly lines of the St. Petersburg site. It adds that following localization of production, vehicles will be offered under a new brand, though the name and project timing were not disclosed. For context, full-cycle Solaris production using existing car kits began at the plant in winter 2024, and about 82,000 vehicles were assembled in total, including Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio sedans and Hyundai Creta crossovers.
