Recall alert: Volkswagen recalls more than 22.5K ID.4 electric vehicles
Volkswagen is recalling about 22,524 ID.4 electric vehicles due to concerns that a battery issue could lead to fires. The automaker says owners should charge only up to 80% until a remedy is implemented, according to a recall notice posted on the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. The affected models are ID.4 crossovers built between Jan. 1, 2023, and Feb. 1, 2025. Volkswagen says the root cause remains unknown, but that certain high-voltage battery charging profiles combined with a state of charge above 80% may trigger thermal propagation. The company is aware of 23 U.S. claims between Jan. 18, 2024, and Aug. 7, 2026, and plans no reimbursement since vehicles are covered by the new limited warranty period.
