Regulators Don't Love The Tesla Cybercab's Driverless Design - Jalopnik

Regulators at the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are pressing Tesla to clarify how the Cybercab can be certified as road-legal despite lacking interior controls such as a steering wheel for a human driver. According to an order published Tuesday, NHTSA asked Tesla whether the vehicle has the ability to be driven using traditional controls, and if so, whether that capability forms part of Tesla’s basis for compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The Cybercab reportedly includes a small graph display inside that can be used to control the vehicle, though the question is whether that method meets the FMVSS expectations.
