Volvo XC60 and XC90 PHEVs Plug Gap Between Hybrid and EV

Volvo is expanding its electrified lineup with long-range plug-in hybrid versions of the XC60 and XC90, aiming to bridge today’s hybrid market and an eventual all-electric future. Volvo says the XC60 delivers up to 78 miles of electric range on a single charge, while the heavier XC90 tops out at up to 73 miles. Together, the Swedish maker claims they offer the longest electric range of any plug-in hybrids available in the American market. The update relies on a new floor-integrated, higher-capacity battery (38 kWh) and a stronger electric motor, with the turbo 2.0-liter gasoline engine backing it up when needed.
