Renault’s first-half sales volumes slipped as rising competition from new Chinese brands in Europe curtailed growth in some of its lineup. The French automaker reported it sold 1.17 million cars and vans from January to June, down 0.4% year-on-year. Volumes fell 3.3% in the first quarter, after logistics issues affected its low-cost Dacia brand. Renault said results reflect brand complementarity, improved sales quality, a stronger value focus and faster electrification. In its largest market, France, it reduced lower-margin sales, including deliveries to short-term rental firms, to prioritize retail customers. Europe still accounts for more than 70% of Renault sales; the Renault brand rose 2.6% on the success of the electric R5. By contrast, Dacia volumes dropped 8.7% as an electric range limited mainly to the China-imported Spring weighed on demand. Full half-year figures will be published July 30.
