Rwanda Will Host Formula 1’s New African Grand Prix
xCruzo Brief
Formula 1 is set to return to Africa with a new African Grand Prix in Rwanda, running for 10 years starting in the early 2030s. The race will be held on a newly built circuit near Rwanda’s capital, Kigali, in a city called Bugesera. Track design and engineering are being handled with Tilke Engineering and Wurz Designs, with Wurz Designs’ team including Le Mans winner Alex Wurz. The planned layout is 17 turns over 3.7 miles, with roughly 650 feet of elevation change per lap, cambered corners and banking, and races running counterclockwise. Officials also say the venue will host other motorsport disciplines, including karting and off-road courses.
