Suspect arrested in theft of Alameda County vehicles

A 56-year-old Oakland man with 10 prior felony convictions was arrested as a suspect in the theft of five vehicles, including two belonging to Alameda County Sheriff's Office, stolen from a downtown garage on Sunday around 7:16 a.m. The suspect was arrested hours later while driving a Ford sedan, the vehicle used during the thefts, in Oakland following a sighting by an AC Transit deputy at the Alameda County Parking Garage, 165 13th Street. Vehicles included two sheriff’s Office cars, two from another county agency, and one from a rental company; one sheriff’s SUV carried emergency lights and a siren, though it’s unclear if the Ford belonged to the department.
