Tesla, BYD, or Rivian: Which Stock Currently Has the EV Crown?
The EV leadership discussion in 2026 has shifted from Tesla’s former dominance to a broader contest featuring BYD and Rivian. BYD is now the world’s largest producer of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, selling 4.6 million BEVs and PHEVs in 2025, a 7.7% increase year over year. Its vertical integration includes manufacturing batteries, semiconductors, electric motors, and power electronics, helping manage costs and respond quickly to demand changes. Rivian, meanwhile, reached its first full-year gross profit in 2025, with revenue around $5.38 billion, while improving manufacturing efficiency. It expects to deliver 62,000 to 67,000 vehicles this year and remains unprofitable. Tesla’s case centers on its scale and ecosystem, including more than 80,000 Superchargers and expanding energy storage deployments such as Megapack, alongside investments in autonomy, robotics, AI, and manufacturing automation.
