Tesla pauses Model 3 Premium orders after hitting import cap
Tesla has paused Model 3 Premium orders in Canada after reaching an import quota for Chinese-built vehicles. A notice on Tesla’s Canada website says orders were stopped because “high demand exhausted Tesla’s import quota,” and that ordering resumes if the Government of Canada issues more quota, expected in March 2027. The Canadian configurator currently greys out the Premium trim. The report adds that Tesla previously rerouted to Shanghai-built Model 3s to avoid Canada’s counter-tariff response to U.S. tariffs, and that import-cap rules have been confusing: officials say the cap is first-come, first-served, though Global Affairs Canada can reserve part of the quota for OEMs, including new entrants. Some users speculate Tesla could revert to U.S.-built Model 3 Premiums based on website changes, with screenshots suggesting U.S.-range and 0–100 km/h figures, though the RWD specs page shows different numbers.
