Tesla recalls nearly 3M vehicles over doors that may be difficult to open after crashes

Tesla said Friday it is recalling about 2.98 million vehicles in China, the largest recall in the country’s history, after complaints that doors may be difficult to open during emergencies. The recall covers imported and China-made variants of the Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X. The issue involves Tesla’s electronically operated retractable door handles, which could become harder to operate after a severe collision if the vehicle’s low-voltage system fails. Tesla warns this could delay occupant escape and impede rescue efforts. The fix includes attaching warning labels and remotely upgrading window-control software to lower windows after an accident.
