The most reliable cars in 2025—and the least—are drawn from a What Car? survey of owners, designed to measure low hassle and low maintenance costs. The study is based on experiences from more than 32,000 owners over the last two years, covering reliability across small, family and executive car segments. In small cars, the Hyundai i10 (2020+) achieves a 100% reliability rating, with three other models closely following: Toyota Aygo X (2022+) at 99.7% and Mini Hatch (2014–2024) at 99.1%. At the bottom, the Renault Zoe (2013–2024) is listed as least reliable at 85.1%, with a 39% fault rate and many reports tied to EV battery problems, as well as issues involving 12-volt batteries, air conditioning and electrics. Opel Corsa Electric (87.6%) and MG 3 (87.9%) are also low. In family cars, the Kia Ceed (2018–2025) rates 98.8%, while Hyundai Ioniq Electric (2016–2022) falls to 80.1%. The survey’s executive-car top pick is the Alfa Romeo Giulia (2016+) at 98.2%.
