The World Has Forgotten How To Make Sports Cars -- Suzuki Just Remembered: Suzuki is preparing a potential return of its ultra-lightweight Cappuccino, nearly 30 years after the original 660-cc turbocharged, 64 hp kei-roadster vanished from showrooms. The next compact, rear-wheel-drive sports car is being developed with Daihatsu, alongside a 2025 Japan Mobility Show concept nicknamed “K-Open” for its resemblance to the Daihatsu Copen. According to Japan magazine Best Car (Aug. 26 edition, page 7), Daihatsu would need Suzuki’s rear-wheel-drive architecture, with Toyota involvement, to make the business case work. Initial expectations place the new Copen around $15,000 and the Cappuccino near $17,000, with U.S. sales not planned. The original Cappuccino debuted in 1991 with sub-730 kg weight, a 50:50 balance, and a turbocharged three-cylinder feeding the rear wheels via a five-speed manual.
