These Automakers Sold The Most Cars in Europe Last Month: the data show May new-vehicle registrations growing across Europe after a slow start to the year. According to ACEA, total registrations across the EU, EFTA countries and the UK reached 1,152,523 vehicles in May 2026, up 3.6% versus May 2025. Growth was 3.2% in the EU, 1.4% in EFTA and 3.6% in the UK, with Italy again leading large markets at +7.6%. France rose 3.7% and Germany edged up 0.1%, while Spain declined 0.8%. Battery-electric vehicles hit 20% share with more than 950,000 registrations, and hybrids remained dominant at 37.8% with nearly 1.8 million vehicles. Gasoline and diesel fell sharply, taking their combined share to 30.1%. In group rankings, Volkswagen Group led with 25.8%, followed by Stellantis (15.5%) and Renault (9.2%). Among brands, Chinese growth was highlighted as BYD, Chery and Leapmotor surged, while Ford, Nissan and Mitsubishi declined.
