A Michigan EV driver says a Hyundai dealer charged him $418 for a session after the charger was listed as “public” on the EVgo app. The case involves Stanley Kpenkann, from Clinton Township, who was using a rented Chevy Bolt EV at Elder Hyundai’s Macomb Township store. He drove for “about 40-something minutes” and only saw the total after the charge ended. After contacting EVgo, he learned the charge wasn’t an app error: the dealer set a rate of $5 per kWh plus an additional $5 for every minute the vehicle was connected.
