This is what a supercar was like a century ago

Bentley brought a rare slice of its early Super Sports history to Laguna Seca in California: a 1926 example known as YM 4037, better remembered as “Smoky,” the 12th of just 18 Super Sports built from 1925 to 1927. The car used Bentley’s 3.0-litre engine with upgraded internals—new pistons, lighter flywheel, more compression, and different carburetors—plus unique gearing aimed at surpassing 100 mph (160 km/h). Originally a race car in England, it later received a 4.5-litre motor from the 1928 Le Mans-winning Bentley and recorded seven Brooklands wins (1935-1937).
