This Week in TSLA: Roadster's Flying Debut, Cybercab Speeding in School Zones, SpaceX Merger and More - T
Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) and CEO Elon Musk were at the center of a busy week covering everything from the “flying” Roadster reveal to renewed merger talk. Tesla unveiled its long-awaited high-performance Roadster, described as having hovering capabilities powered by thrusters from Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ: SPCX). Musk also posted a video on X showing the Roadster launching over a row of cars that included Tesla’s Cybercab, Cybertruck, Semi, Model 3 and Model Y. Investors are pressing for clarity ahead of Tesla’s third-quarter 2026 earnings call on October 21, including questions about Cybercab availability, robotaxi insurance responsibilities, and hardware/software concerns. Merger speculation resurfaced after Barclays analyst Dan Levy reportedly suggested Tesla and SpaceX could agree as early as December. Meanwhile, U.S. regulators reviewed allegations that robotaxis exceeded posted speed limits in active school zones, with NHTSA receiving a petition on Sept. 23 and opening an evaluation on Oct. 9.
