Top Rhode Island spots the Tartan Army can explore during the World Cup
Rhode Island hosts World Cup excitement with a FIFA-sanctioned PVD FanZone that links match viewing across the United States, Mexico and Canada to the state’s summer calendar. The event centers at Station Park, the green between the State House, Providence Place, and the train station, with some streets temporarily closed to traffic. Ghana is slated for a June 20 takeover and Scotland for June 24 as part of team-focused events. Waterplace Park Pavilion will house the Portugal House, featuring live viewing, appearances by athletes and celebrities, and merchandise sales. Beyond soccer, Rhode Island highlights its beaches and historic sights, including Newport’s acclaimed Easton’s Beach and Sachuest Beach. Condé Nast Traveler named Newport among the best East Coast beach towns, while Easton’s Beach is cited by outlets as a top coast spot. The Breakers, built in 1895, is a premier Vanderbilt estate open 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with last entry at 4 p.m. The Newport Sailing Museum at 365 Thames St. opens 10 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, with admission $20 for adults, $15 for students, $8 for youth (5–10), and free for children 0–4.
