Touts new V-8 engines in revived 'truck wars' with Ford, Ram amid lackluster EV sales

General Motors is reframing the “truck wars” for the 2027 model year around V-8 power, following Ford and as EV demand lags. GM this week detailed the engine lineup for the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, including two new V-8s, a carryover inline-six-cylinder diesel, and an enhanced four-cylinder turbocharged option. The company also highlighted its redesigned pickups and a sixth-generation Small Block V-8 heritage first built in 1955. GM President Mark Reuss said the goal is continued segment leadership, with EV weakness offset by profitable full-size pickups.
