Toyota launches its updated bZ5 electric SUV at half the price of a Tesla Model Y

Toyota introduced the updated 2027 bZ5 electric SUV in China, positioning it at roughly half the price of a Tesla Model Y. The refreshed model goes on sale Wednesday with six variants priced at 129,800 to 199,800 yuan (about $19,500 to $30,000). Limited-time offers start at 109,800 yuan (about $16,500). FAW-Toyota offers two BYD Blade battery options—65.28 kWh and 73.98 kWh—rated at up to 550 km and 630 km CLTC range. Power comes from a single front motor producing 268 hp (200 kW). Charging from 30% to 80% takes 27–29 minutes. The SUV adds Momenta 6.0 with 544 TOPS, roof-mounted LiDAR, and 32 sensors, alongside driver monitoring for both occupants.
