Toyota Wanted to Replace the Highlander With an EV. It's Already Delayed: TDS
Toyota has delayed the launch of its first-ever Highlander EV, originally planned for later in 2026, according to a report cited by The Drive’s Downshift. The article says it is currently unclear when the electric model will reach the market, but it notes the gas and hybrid versions will remain in production in the meantime. The company’s stated reason is that it is making “additional adjustments to the vehicle prior to launch.” Separately, Volkswagen is reportedly seeking to cut roughly half of its model lines across its brands as part of a major restructuring, but labor representatives voted down the proposal 12–7. In global deliveries, VW reported a 8.6% second-quarter decline, with China sales down 20% year over year. BMW also reported a 13% U.S. sales increase in Q2, helped by the 3 Series, X3, and X5.
