Trump says U.S. won't attack Iran before midterms. And, ICE agent shoots man in NYC
The Up First newsletter opened with major U.S. updates, led by Hurricane Isaias, expected to make landfall on the northern Gulf Coast as early as that night—the first hurricane of the Atlantic season. The National Hurricane Center warned of potentially dangerous winds over 100 mph and life-threatening storm surge of 5 to 7 feet, with residents in Mississippi, Alabama and northwest Florida preparing. The newsletter said states are pre-positioning personnel and emergency supplies such as generators, food and water. It also highlighted a Southeast risk for flash flooding and tornadoes, though forecasters expect the storm to move quickly and weaken. In foreign news, Ukraine launched Operation Vivaldi, using electronic warfare, aerial drones and unmanned land robots to disrupt Russian reconnaissance and supply routes. The update also cited at least 30 deaths from a strike on a bus in Kramatorsk.
